At approximately 1:30 pm on Monday, April 18, Berkeley Lab facilities personnel, working to clear a drainage ditch in very steep and brushy terrain on Berkeley Lab’s southern perimeter, discovered human remains, consisting of a skull and one bone. The remains were found outside of Berkeley Lab’s fence line but on Berkeley Lab’s property. The Alameda County Coroner’s Office completed its search of the site on Tuesday, April 19 after finding two additional bones and has taken custody of the remains, which it will now seek to identify. It is unknown how long the remains have been in the drainage ditch. Foul play is not suspected, pending new information from the Coroner’s Office.
